Megastore Tidy Up Together Solo Play Without a Partner
Pause, saves, skill spend, and last-item habits for one-player tidy-up runs.
You do not need a friend to finish Megastore: Tidy Up Together. Solo play is a full game on every launch store. Yolo Games Studio shipped online co-op as an option, not a requirement, when the Steam Windows build released on 2 September 2026. This page is the one-player manual. It sits under the co-op players hub and beside co-op roles if you later add a partner.
Start with the beginner guide and the Toy Store walkthrough. Then come back here for pause, saves, and how a lone stocker should spend the tree.
Solo is the default loop
Toy Store (3,555 items, 297 shelves) is designed as a teaching shift. Signs such as Pretend Play, Educational Toys, and Plushies do the navigation. One person can restore it in a sitting. Supermarket (7,934 items, 487 shelves) is a longer grocery run, still reasonable alone if you claim halves of the store in your own head. Megastore (13,380 items, nine departments, 978 shelves, two stories) is the map where a partner helps most, and it is still completable solo if you treat floors as two jobs you swap, not as one atrium you wander.
Progressive unlocks exist so you should not skip ahead. Learn green highlights and auto-sort in hand on the toy floor before you ride a clogged escalator. The HUD will show numbered abilities — magnet-style pull, compact tool, flashlight, roller, megaphone, crate — but you can ignore them. Play with or without skills. There are 33 achievements, including finishing a store without using skills.
Pause, saves, and crashes
Hotfix 1.0.1 (3 September 2026) makes ESC pause time when you are the only player in the session. That is the quality-of-life change that makes solo last-item hunts sane. Use it. In co-op the world does not freeze the same way, which is one reason to stay solo while you learn.
Players have requested separate solo and partner saves. Treat that as a request. If you later host a friend, you may be writing onto the same file. Keep a copy if you care about a no-skills Toy Store clear.
Autosave and crash complaints appeared right after launch. Do not assume a three-hour Megastore run is safe because you have not died yet. Back out to the menu at department boundaries. If a product is stuck, use Unstuck Product; the hotfix added a missing Supermarket area to that settings list, so a solo grocery run should be less likely to dead-end on collision.
Skill spend when you are alone
A lone player buys the two named perks in this order after the hotfix:
- Long Reach (+1 m). Confirm it lengthened grab range. The launch bug that could reduce reach when it was the first perk is patched.
- Stack Capacity +3. You are the only pair of hands. The hotfix also stopped this node from granting +6.
Then take a HUD tool that matches tonight’s bottleneck: magnet-style pull for floor carpets, flashlight for a missing SKU, crate once you climb the Megastore. Skip megaphone. Full ranking is on best skills; the solo-versus-pair differences are on solo vs co-op skills.
Controller left trigger overlaps grab and abilities. That overlap is worse solo because you have no partner to unshelve a mistaken tool fire. Rebind using the controls guide. Keyboard and mouse remain the most reliable pair for a no-skills attempt.
Last-item method
Solo wipes die in the last twenty products, not the first two thousand. Use a method:
- Sweep one department to green outlines, then stop. Do not tour the atrium “just in case.”
- Read the in-hand counter. Auto-sort already grouped the stack; if the HUD says you still need more of a SKU, go get that SKU instead of a new category.
- Flashlight the bay, then the floor, then Unstuck. Do not magnet the entire store.
- On Toy Store, check the plushie corner. Puzzle Foam V is on the floor for new saves; old saves may still have it on the top shelf.
- Tick the store checklist and follow the faster sorting route.
Large-product hold poses were adjusted in the hotfix so a solo carry is easier to see. If a boat or ride-on still fills the camera, swap to the compact tool instead of walking into shelves.
Hidden tokens that feed arcade-machine buffs are player reports. Do not stall a solo clear hunting them unless you already finished the shelves.
No-skills runs
You can restore a store with an empty tree. Hotfix 1.0.1 fixed the achievement tracking for finishing a store without using skills. Practical rules:
- Rebind left trigger so a grab cannot fire a numbered ability.
- Do not open a tool “just to see.”
- Use ESC pause to think. That pause exists because you are the only player.
- Toy Store is the sane first attempt. Megastore is a long one; keep a spare save.
If the run feels like a chore, you are allowed to spend points. The tree is optional, not a purity test. Invite a partner only when the Megastore’s two stories are eating your evening; job splits then live on co-op roles. Check hotfix notes and the roadmap before a marathon so you know whether a new map is worth waiting for — polish comes first, then extra stores.
A solo session is just a shift with one name on the roster. Pause when you need to, seat one department at a time, and let the partner invite wait until the atrium actually asks for a second pair of hands.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Does solo pause the game now?
Yes. Hotfix 1.0.1 pauses time when you open ESC as the only player in the session. That freeze is a solo feature, not a co-op one.
Which store should I solo first?
Toy Store. Follow the Toy Store walkthrough before unlocking Supermarket. Megastore is completable alone but is a two-story job.
What should a solo player buy on the skill tree?
Long Reach, then Stack Capacity +3, then a HUD tool that matches the bottleneck. Skip megaphone. See best skills.
Will hosting a friend overwrite my solo save?
Players have asked for separate solo and partner saves. Do not assume you have them. Keep a copy before you host.
How do I avoid firing a skill on controller?
Rebind left trigger. It overlaps grab and abilities. The controls guide is the page for that bind.
When should I stop soloing and invite someone?
When the Megastore atrium is eating the evening. Job splits are on co-op roles. Until then, solo is enough.
